Sustainable? Durable! Truly Sustainable!!

In the promotional market, the number of sustainable promotional gifts has increased significantly in recent years. But how sustainable are these gifts actually? Are they really that sustainable?
What actually is a sustainable gift? And how do I best select such a sustainable gift?

1. The “Sustainable promotional gifts?” are put on the market to easily meet the demand for sustainable gifts. The sustainable aspect is a purely marketing aspect. For example, these products usually only contain 20 or 30% recycled material. But they are produced in the Far East and are not really sustainable.

2. The “Sustainable promotional gifts!” are consciously produced. For example, they consist of 80% recycled material, and/or are easy to recycle, and/or are produced in Europe / the Netherlands, which means a short transport distance. A good and responsible choice.

3. The "Truly sustainable promotional gifts!! are well thought out and consciously produced. They 'present' very well in terms of material choice, functionality and production location. A very responsible choice. Just an example to illustrate: A pen is a very functional item. If it is made of 85% recycled plastic, in Germany (short transport distance) and if this pen also writes 3.5 km (instead of the usual 850 meters) then you have a truly sustainable product. A A beautiful, responsible promotional gift that you can give and receive with confidence.

What aspects make a gift sustainable?

What aspects should you pay attention to when selecting a sustainable promotional gift? Just briefly summarized;

1. What material is it made from
2. Where was it produced
3. How long does the product last
4. How useful is the product
5. What certifications does the product have?
6. The CO2 emissions from transport are compensated
7. Is the supplier EcoVadis certified?

How do I select the most sustainable gift?

It is difficult to find out from a catalog or behind your screen how sustainable gifts are.
Our advice: call the supplier and ask questions as above. Also ask if certificates for the products are available. And are they affiliated with MVO Nederland and what certifications do they have? EcoVadis for example?
