As of January 1, 2018, the home copying allowance also applies to USB sticks
This means that from that date we, as an importer and trader of USB sticks, must charge our customers a home copying fee of EUR 0.60 per USB stick and pay it to Stichting de Thuiskopie.
The scheme was established by law to compensate for lost revenues from copying copyrighted material. The Minister of Justice has appointed Stichting de Thuiskopie, to the exclusion of anyone else, to collect and distribute all private copying fees.
The private copying fee for USB sticks will be shown on the invoice for the sake of transparency.
